You Can’t Ride Papers
I always hear people say that you can't ride papers...
I hate to break it to you but that's absolutely false. The past few weeks, I've had some pretty cool experiences working with well bred animals. I called my trainer about 2mths ago. She just pulled a nice bay filly from pasture and on day four, she posted a video of her first ride. I was fishing for an answer why or how did she progress that fast? The filly sat all winter and barely halterbroke. Why does it take me so long sometimes to get one started?
The conversation never turned to how I trained. We talked genetics and their trainability. And now that I'm 2 horses deep into well bred cowhorse machines, I've got to say she's right. You can ride papers. They are bred for a particular job. The trainability of their mind is incredible in how much can be done so soon. Papers gives you a slight hint of what the horse could be or not be. I particularly prefer proven. I've seen many horses with papers that might as well be grade. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with grade horses. We still own several. Unless you've rode these horses i described, keep in mind of the possibilities out there.
