This includes leading with a soft feel, experience standing tied, basic groundwork maneuvers, and comfortable with human presence.

Colt Starting
Starting colts is a marathon, not a sprint. We pride ourselves in how our groundwork confidently prepares a young horse for the first ride. Colts learn to confidently carry humans, walk, trot, lope, stop and back. They learn to travel centered, how to soften and find their balance as they get fit. Get hauling, time standing tied, bathing experience, and comfortable with flags and ropes.

Refinement
Horses that have been under saddle a minimum of 6 months of consistent riding. This program is tailored to the horse individually and the goals of the owner.. our main goal is the horse to find "center", a place of no pressure and to learn to soften and gain skills needed for the show pen and/or trail riding.

Meet the trainer
Growing up in Eastern Washington, Lucia had a passion for good horsemanship and showing horses. Early in her career, she rode with the nation's top 3-Day eventing trainers and competed in eventing herself for several years, earning her way up to the CCI*. She credits her classical riding skills in her early days of eventing, having the opportunity to ride several top school masters tbat went to the Olympics on a daily basis.
In spring 2010, Lucia opened her business as a licensed and certified trainer. In 2016 she was top in the nation competing in colt starting challenges and earned her spot as the first woman to compete at the national finals. The following year, she was named a 2017 recipient for the legacy of legends scholarship program, honoring the practice of horsemanship done by Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance. As Lucia's program excels in colt starting and refinement training, she now rides and competes in the reined cow horse world. Currently learning and showing on her five year old derby horse and a three year old hopeful.
Lucia resides at her beautiful 40 acre ranch tucked in a sage brush sea in Ephrata, WA with her fiance and 3 children. She has a full service training facility to accommodate the average trail rider who seeks better horsemanship, offering a great colt starting program and an entry level program for those interested in introducing their horses to cattle. Lucia's goals are to continue to improve her horsemanship daily, travel a little more to show in the reined cow and teach in horse expos. Her favorite part about her job is inspiring her clients to better their horsemanship and encourage young trainers to chase their passions.
